Adoption Fee: $50.00
Pit Bull / Jack Russell
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

We are needing to rehome our 2yr female pit mix named Frankie- she is 1/2 pitbull and 1/2 jack russell terrier, around 35lbs, short and stocky, has been spayed, and is current on annual vet visit, rabies, distemper-parvo, and simperica trio for heart worms. We got her when she was 8 weeks old from one of my coworkers. She is trained to sit, lay down, stay, back up, off, knows NO, crate trained, will go potty outside on command, and walks decently on a leash ( she will pull a little at first but due to her build she tires quickly and then will walk on a relaxed leash). The reason we are needing to rehome is right as she turned 2 this year she very suddenly became dog and cat aggressive. We have 4 other dogs and 2 cats so this is not a good situation for our pets. At first she only instigated fights with one of our older female dogs so we tried keeping them separate for a while and then testing to see if they could be together when supervised and she attacked the other female dog again. We have tried her with one of our other female dogs and eventually they got to the point where if the other dog wouldn't 'fall in line' Frankie would instigate a fight. She has shown in the last few months other animals around her have to be 100% submissive and because of this really needs to be the only animal in the home. These fights started back in February and we have been keeping her separate from all of our other animals since. She is not reactive towards our other dogs through gates - as long as there is a barrier she has no reaction to the other dogs. The routine of keeping her separate is currently something we are dealing with but it is just not a good long term solution for her or my other animals or for my husband and I. She is such a fun dog and great to have as a companion. She loves to play and go on walks but also loves to curl up on the couch and cuddle with her people. I truly think she would thrive in a home where she can be the only animal. She can be nervous when first meeting new people outside of our home and is scared of strange men. We socialized her a lot in the first 4 months we had her but unfortunately at that point I started a night shift job and my ability to keep socializing her dropped drastically. I think she needs to be in a home without young children due to the fact that we have some undesirable neighbors and I have caught their young children taunting her and trying to scare her through our chain link fence multiple times. She now has a reaction to seeing them near our fence. Frankie doesn't care if the kids are over playing in their yard and is not reactive to that but if they start coming at our fence she runs to bark at them. I have a 1yr old niece at my house once a week and she has never had any problem or reaction to her so I do not think she in general dislikes kids but would do much better with older kids. Because of the Terrier in her she is highly trainable but due to working nights and the time consuming routine we have to rotate all animals right now I am not able to put in a lot of training time. She is highly motivated with treats and would excel in any training though. If we did not have the other animals we would absolutely keep her but at this point we feel like we have to make the call that is safest for all animals involved.
