Meet Dot, a sweet 1-year-old pit mix with so much love to give. Scared in the Charlotte shelter, Dot is learning to open up and be a dog again. Although she can be shy, Dot is a curious girl who has been enjoying exploring her new foster home and backyard. All she wants is a patient, calm family to give her the reassurance and comfort she needs. So far in foster, she's made great strides, pushing herself each day and slowly opening up. Be gentle with her, and she will melt your heart. With time, she'll learn to trust you, and once she does, she will shower you with nothing but love. Desperately wanting to please you, she takes correction very well and backs off if you tell her 'no.' She loves being around other dogs, showing happy tail wags, but slower dog intros are advised since she wants to lick their faces immediately (and surprisingly, strangers don't always love that!). When she's excited, she'll bounce around the house, and her legs can't seem to catch up with her body. She loves napping and relaxing in her room, as well as being close to you and snuggling up on the couch. Chicken nuggets, whipped cream, or a duck foot are keys to her heart, and she'll take them so gently. Her ideal adventure spots would be either a quiet neighborhood path or a shady nature trail. She's shown positive body language towards other dogs and is eager to meet our resident dog, opening up on parallel walks with him. A confident, tolerant dog sibling would help show her the ropes and pull her out of her shell. She did meet a neighbor's cat outside and was very fixated on it, so she might not do well with cats; however, without testing her indoors, it's too soon to say for sure. Dot is completely housetrained, and she's working on her crate training and basic commands, learning 'sit' and 'stay' very quickly. She does go in her crate where she sleeps solidly throughout the night. While she might cry at first when she first goes into her crate, she eventually settles in and takes a nap. Additionally, I have not seen any resource-guarding tendencies with either toys or food. While she might not love bathtime, she tolerated a nice soak for 15 minutes in the tub before trying to escape.
