About Sami

Adoption Fee: $100
American Staffordshire Terrier / Pit Bull
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

I am fostering SAMI through BACD (Broward Animal Care). I have had her for 6 months now, the first three months were really to rehabilitate her as she had been kept in a tiny cage so her hind leg muscles had atrophied. Thankfully, we both worked really hard and did physiotherapy every day and now she's like any normal dog, running, jumping, leaping around - 100% in great shape. She is the sweetest girl, 2 and a half years old, had a very bad start to life (as do a lot of dogs it seems), was used for breeding, blind in one eye, starved, and then tossed out, but I've rehabilitated her fully. She's extremely loving, affectionate, playful, SMART!!! LOVES to learn new commands and tricks! She's GREAT with children, is crate trained (although I never need to close the gate), she's obedient, gentle, sensitive, sweet natured - LOVES going out on a boat up and down the canal. She'd be great with a family with children, or even a stay at home person as a companion dog. She loves a good run and a good play! She is part Staffordshire terrier, part Pitbull, part American Bulldog, and part bat (lovely big ears!), weighs 46 lbs. Her favorite activity is to chase iguanas off the dock, She currently has a fenced in garden and LOVES to run around and survey her kingdom. She would definitely be best in a house with a garden, she loves her walks, doesn't pull on the leash, and is just the sweetest dog ever. Ideally I'd like her to be adopted locally in Fort Lauderdale so I can still visit her and have her to stay if the owners go away. She's sensitive - can play by herself with her toys, and is fully house trained, so she can be left alone for 2 - 3 hours at a time. She's not a barker - so if she DOES bark, I know she's telling me I need to pay attention - which is great. She does her little woo woos in the house when she talks to me. She is microchipped, up to date with her vaccines and preventatives. She is afraid of overhead/ceiling fans though, and if I pick up a pole or big stick, she sometimes cowers, so I know she was badly beaten at some point in her life, but after 6 months with me and my husband, she is now the best girl she can be! The adoption fee covers her bed (purchased from BJ's - this bed MUST go with her, as she knows it, it is her safe place), her harness (I NEVER allow a leash to be attached to her collar, ONLY to a harness), her life jacket if someone has a boat and wants to take her on a boat, her toys (she has plenty of those), and some food (she's on Hills Science diet) and treats. She also has a crate with bedding. These are all items I will have to purchase again when I next foster a dog, so I'm just covering my expenses. And always remember, if you go away and need someone to take care of her, I'll gladly pet sit her at my house!
