About Mama

Meet Mama (formerly Estrella) Breed: ChiWeenie (Chihuahua-Dachshund mix) Age: 9 years Gender: Female, spayed Mama is a very sweet 9-year-old ChiWeenie. She first came to our rescue in 2015 as a 1-year-old with a single puppy. Named Estrella at that time, she was adopted in 2016 along with her puppy but was unfortunately returned to us a few months ago. We don't focus on the circumstances of her return, as our policy ensures that any of our dogs are welcomed back if they cannot stay with their adopter for any reason. Here are some details about sweet Mama: Health: She has a gimpy left front leg due to an untreated fracture before she first came to us. The elbow is fused, so she cannot bend it, but she gets around just fine. Recent X-rays are available and can be sent to an adopter's veterinarian for evaluation. Behavior: Initially, she had a tendency to resource guard her person from other dogs, but she has been corrected and no longer exhibits this behavior in her current foster home. She is indifferent to other dogs but will share dog beds with them. Ideally, she would prefer to be the only dog to have her person all to herself. Training: Mama is crate trained but prefers to be in the same room as her person. She doesn't like to be picked up without notice and may snap if picked up too quickly, likely due to her past injury and anticipation of pain. However, if you let her know you are going to pick her up, she allows it. Mama is ready for a new home with someone who won't let her down this time. She is being fostered in Virginia Beach, VA.
