Courtesy Posting: EMERGENCY!! DELANO, CA (CENTRAL CA)- HEARTBREAKING DIRE SITUATION- 30-40 lb CHOW/SHEP/SPITZ X 'LEO' LEFT TO STARVE at VACANT HOME 109 degrees- lived w/ sm dogs- CAN ANYONE HELP TO RESCUE, FOSTER, ADOPT OR PLEDGE? We received a desperate plea from a good Samaritan who said, 'My back neighbor moved and left their four dogs behind. I had no idea they had been out there for weeks with little food and water and covered in fleas and ticks. I am feeding them and ensuring they have water in our 109-degree weather. I was able to find a rescue for the 3 smaller ones but could not find one for Leo the big dog. The only other option would be to send him to the shelter and that's a last resort.' The good sam neighbor has been feeding Leo and making progress with him. Understandably, Leo was very untrusting at first, but has been warming up and can be seen in video and now taking treats: https://photos.app.goo.gl/JXCRWgXY2BKBdzaC8 He is still extremely thin in weight, as well as his coat which used to be fluffy. Leo has a black chow like tongue but has the thin build and ears of a shepherd or other spitz breed like a husky and may be a combo of all 3 breeds. The good sam said, 'I am not sure how he does with other dogs except for the small ones he lives with. He can be a little food aggressive with them but that's the extent of it. I am unsure what medical issues he has other than being emaciated and matted. I think he is 30-40 lbs at the moment.' Leo is believed to be approximately 6 years old. Leo is in need of vetting and neuter which we would seek to find a rescue to assist and or have sponsored for a home. Right now, we desperately need a place for him to go so we need a patient home, foster and or rescue asap. Please note someone already called animal control where his chances of being saved from there are very slim due to his neglected and shy condition, and the fact they are beyond full. The shelter has agreed to give a few weeks to find placement as the neighbor is continuing to work with Leo. If no placement can be found in the near future, the full shelter will need to confiscate him and will likely euthanize him. Therefore, if you can help this poor boy in any way to have a chance at life, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to help him. We are in need of anyone who can offer a home, foster, rescue, pledge towards his medical and rescue, donate food or shelter, or offer to possibly transport if needed.
