Courtesy Posting: X URGENT '1ST NOTICE GIVEN' - RESCUE ONLY' FOR BEING SHY- DOWNEY/LA COUNTY, CA (S CAL)- ID #A5639851 - 'MAURICE'- GENTLE ENOUGH TO BE CARRIED, DOG TOLERANT- NEEDS A FOSTER AND RESCUE TO SAVE HIS LIFE SHELTER IS GIVING FIRST WARNING 7/29 AND WILL BE AT RISK FOR EUTHANASIA SOON. WHO CAN HELP? PLS CONTACT ROBIN FOR HELP OR WITH INTEREST Please help us find a chow savvy foster, or foster to adopt, and rescue to save this dear boy before it is too late. Someone walked him in saying they could not keep him due to their home not allowing pets. They did not know his name, said they had him only 5 days and did not clarify where he came from. They reported no behavior or medical issues on the form they filled out. The shelter named him Maurice and estimated his age at approximately 5 years old, and did not know any medical issues either. However, Maurice has some noticeable missing and thinning fur and has been given Nexguard and vaccinations. Although Maurice came in quite fearful like many chows do, he has slowly warmed up since his intake on 7/17. As of 7/25, he had positive shelter notes stating, ' After a few attempts, he relaxed long enough to be leashed. The runner waited for him to settle before finally deciding to carry him over to the yard. Inside the catch pen, he allowed himself to be collared with ease. He was tolerant of the dogs sniffing him but overall did not care to interact with the dogs. Maurice had a timid and quiet demeanor. He kept to himself, staring out of the yard away from the dogs. After some time, he would move to the further end of the yard and observe the dogs from his position. He kept to himself with a calm and mellow demeanor. He was okay to coexist with the dogs. He did not seek out any engagement with the dogs but tolerated them in his space. Maurice had no playstyle but would be best in a gentle dainty group, he had a low energy level, and is tolerant of other dogs.' Further, shelter assessment notes state, 'He tolerated the handler doing a full examination of his body with the assess-a-hand. Maurice allowed the handler to examine his ears, teeth, stomach, back-end, tail, and front/ back nails. He was wary of the handler but showed no concerning behavior. He will best benefit from confidence building and continued socialization. Maurice is okay for rescue only with a disclosure for handling sensitivity.' We have full and additional shelter notes with further details which do show it took time for him to warm up to being leashed, etc. Sadly, being in a full shelter, they do not have time to work with him, even though he is very likely to continue to make positive progress as is quite typical of the breed after being in a shelter environment. The shelter emailed us, he' will be getting his 1st notice today.' Therefore, Maurice will become very urgent and put on the euthanasia list and a deadline in the near future. We are therefore looking for a patient home or foster asap, ideally chow savvy, who we can refer to a rescue group to save him. Rescues need fosters and a place for a dog to go. We also looking for anyone who is able to go to the shelter to sit with him and or video him. If you can help in any way or would like more information, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network asap who is trying to help Maurice, and can try to pair fosters or interested parties with a willing rescue group. Because he is currently Rescue only, please note the general public cannot adopt or foster him through the shelter. So please do not call them, but contact us instead. If you are a rescue group, to reach the shelter directly, please cali at (562) 940-6898 and note his ID and your interest, and also let us know. Maurice's listing link is : https://24Petconnect.com/DetailsMain/LACO/A5639851. Please note the shelter has him as an owner surrender even thought this does not seem correct, and has sadly also expedited him to the euthanasia list. We are also unclear if there may be an owner looking for him or not. We will be posting updates, more pictures and videos as we receive such on his facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/debbie.alder.14/posts/10165627143698125 Note: to view contents of links you will need to copy and paste each link separately
