About Lobo

Adoption Fee: $25
Mountain Cur / Black Mouth Cur
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Lobo is a Black Mouth/Mountain Cur neutered male whose master prematurely passed away at the age of 51 from a grand mal seizure. This 100-pound powerhouse of a dog has an innately gentle nature, but he will defend his master and family from anyone who he deems to be a threat. Lobo is also a hunter %A0and sees cats and small animals as prey, so he would be best-suited in a home without other animals. This is his tragic story: Lobo was adopted three and a half years ago from a high-kill shelter in Michigan and lived with his sole master, Michael, until Michael's untimely death. Due to Michael's disability and increasing frequency of seizures, his mother, Chris, called him daily to check in on%A0 him. Three months ago, Chris called for three days and her son did not answer. Concerned for his safety, she called the police. When they arrived, she gave the officer permission to break in and there he found Lobo lying next to his dead master.%A0 This is where Lobo's sad story begins. Chris and her husband, Bill, grieving for the loss of their first-born son, took Lobo home to live with them.%A0 For a week, Lobo and their dog Maisie Mae, slept and played together, then, when Bill was preparing to walk out the door for a weekend trip, Maisie Mae ,excitedly, jumped on Bill and Lobo misread this sign of affection for aggression and bit Maisie.%A0 Chris and Bill are not young and it took both of them to force Lobo to release his grip. It was just a warning bite, but they needed to find Lobo a place to stay. Michael's neighbor, Bri, a dog rescue worker, offered to home Lobo as a foster until an appropriate home could be found. Again, Lobo got along well with Bri's s three Pitbulls and, one in particular, was his favorite.%A0 He had also bonded with Bri and, for the first time since his master had died, he seemed happy. Then, a few weeks later, fireworks were set off near their home and the Pit reacted, attacked Lobo, and Lobo fought back. The Pit was seriously injured. A friend, as foolish as it was, intervened between these two powerful dogs and tried to redirect Lobo. He bit her, though it was not a serious bite, Bri had no choice but to separate Lobo from her dogs. Since that day, Lobo cried constantly when he cannot be with his person. %A0 One day, Lobo escaped from the house and saw a stray cat. The cat ran and Lobo took chase. When he caught the cat they fought and the cat died. Bri scolded Lobo and he hung his head and his sad eyes where proof that he knew he had done something terribly wrong. But, the story doesn't end here. Lobo is very loved by Michael's parents, Bri, and my husband and I. Yet, no one can keep him. Bir is moving to a safer neighborhood to raise her family, and we are too old to care for him. No one blames Lobo for what has happened. He reacted to circumstances and situations that brought out the inherent %A0traits of the Mountain Cur dog, protector, hunter, faithfulness, and lover of his family. Lobo needs someone who knows and respects the breed. He needs someone to understand that the last three months have been tragic for him, and that all he needs is to be loved. If he is returned to the animal shelter, it will be his death sentence because he will be deemed unadoptable. We believe Lobo deserves a second chance to live out the remaining years of his life. We have only until August 25th to find Lobo a home.%A0 Can you please help save Lobo's life. Thank you
