About Sarge

Sarge ( 2yr old Blue Heeler/ Mini Australian Shepard mix - intacted 25 lbs male) was brought into our family last fall from a private party surrender with rehoming fee of $150. We had plans to be moving to our own place this year and felt it would be good to get him established while we were still in town. Unfortunately our plans have been delayed and Sarge's herding drive and wanting a job cannot wait. When we got him it was obvious he had suffered physical abuse and was underweight. We have worked through most of those issues but when his routine changes and things become unknown he reverts back and has to be reminded of his expectations. His best situation would be an outside working dog during the day and spending his time otherwise with his person. He doesn't handle children at play well. He tends to want to herd them like he would livestock ( he's tends to try the same with the cats and other dogs too). He is needing to find a new home- we feel his need for a job and purpose is only going to lead to regression of all the work we've put into his building trust and confidence - as he has started to become protective of me towards the other people and the animals in our home - herding them away from me and my work office during the day (this is his self appointed position he's given himself).
