About DUKE

Adoption Fee: $20.00
Irish Wolfhound / Great Pyrenees
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Duke is the sweetest dog I have ever known. He is so loving and happy. He is honestly a very good boy but he's more than I can handle on my own. He is 2-year-old now, I got him when he was 8 months old 11/25/22. He's tall and slander and he's probably 115pds with white wiry hair with a few tan spots. Right now, he is shedding his winter coat, so his hair is real thin but, in the winter, it comes back very full. He is very good on a leash and trainable. However, he is the Houdini of the dog world when it comes to being on a zipline. He has not met a cable or harness he couldn't get out of. He loves to roam and explore but always comes home and has never hurt any of my neighbors' animals or the wild animals in the area. He loves to being around my neighbors' cattle and would be an excellent dog for a farmer or rancher. He does jump up on people and children but not viciously he's just excitable and wants to play; he has never jumped on small children though. He has been really good with the small children he has been around and makes friends with other animals easily. Also, he is good in the car and traveling. He extremely good on the leash for me, even though he's not always a fan of getting it put on him at first. He likes being free but he will come back and with some ear scratches and a treat I can get the leash on him no problem. Also, He has never pulled me while on the leash, he stays with me and listens to my command. However, it's been a while since we've been on a walk together. He just needs someone who can love him the way he deserves to be loved, someone who can give him more than 10-15 minutes with him and can cuddle with him. Someone that knows how to train him.%A0 He is vaccinated and chipped, but he is not fixed. He is currently not on heart worm medication.%A0 He can be stubborn and picky. I had a nice, insulated doghouse built for him, but he didn't like the insulation and I'm assuming it did not get enough airflow for his liking because he torn out every bit of insulation and removed one of the back walls boards before he started sleeping in it. He fixed it to his liking and now he sleeps in it most nights. He eats dry dog food and likes the HEB Harvest brand, and Blue Buffalo the best. I try to stay away from anything with lamb in it because it makes him itch. He also eats leftovers. Recently he has become more active at night. With me he is a lot calmer, but he is like a little kid at Disney with everyone else, especially people he doesn't get to see often or new people. One time while he was staying at my mom's, he heard me on the phone and started barking and won't leave my mom's side, she put me on speaker and I talked to him for a bit and told him to be good, and he listened and went and played in the other room. He is very teachable and can be really smart when he wants to be. I love him very much, but I can't afford to take care of him, and I can't give him the attention he deserves due to my allergic reaction to him and keeping him is selfish of me. I think he needs to be on a farm or a ranch, where he can be a sheep or cattle dog, and roam, but also somewhere he can get one on one attention and affection.%A0 Oh, he is also scared of the water hose, but he's very well behaved when giving him a bath. He also doesn't like hands around his right ear. I honestly don't know why, but he'll kind of snap like he's going to bite you while turning away from you so he doesn't bite you. He has never bitten anyone.%A0
