About Gino

Dachshund / Chihuahua
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Meet Gino. He's now 7 and was a rescue my parents adopted in Dec. 2020 in Arizona. My dad passed away in 2021 and my mom just passed in April. I've been with Gino since December and he's come along way. He's very loving and responsive, but my parents didn't give him much attention, nor exercise or stimulation. He was very overweight and frustrated, not to mention confused by all the changes. (My mom was admitted into the hospital shortly after I arrived, so he had no idea what was going on.) He adjusted to her absence and me being there and appreciated structure and consistency. He loves to go on walks, travels well (he road tripped with me back to Washington and was a gem on the 3-day journey and perfectly behaved in hotel lobbies and as a guest). He is friendly with my two dogs, but my little Dorkie isn't having it, so I really need to find a loving home for Gino. I wouldn't put him with small children. He shows his boundaries by growling and can be nippy if provoked (I have learned this is typical of Chihuahuas), but overall, he's a really great little dog who has been well trained, is obedient, fully house-trained and well-behaved, and is low energy and low maintenance. He loves to cuddle and has missed years of affection that he is craving. He loves to be around the action and go places. He needs to be part of a clan and receive the love and attention he deserves. He needs a person(s) who can be clear, consistent, and set boundaries with him so he feels safe. it takes a bit to earn his trust be he's extremely loyal once that happens. Glad to answer any questions. I just can't keep him at the expense of the happiness and well-being of my own little dog. He has never shown aggression to any other animals. He's got many good years ahead of him.
