About Helen

Adoption Fee: $100
Corgi
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Helen is a spayed female AKC Pembroke Corgi that is almost 2 years old. She was born 08/01/22 and is current on all vaccines. At 4 weeks of age, Helen was attacked by her dad and again at 7 weeks. She lost her ability to see and walk, but she amazingly built up her strength and she is living life as a normal dog. Helen has a minorly deformed skull and possibly has trouble seeing out of one eye (not blind). The vet has indicated that Helen may have Ataxia in her back legs due to her injury and therefore has some delayed efforts trying to go up and down the stairs. Helen walks and runs normally but does struggle with the stairs. Helen does have some potty-training issues and sometimes has accidents in the home and kennel. She does know basic commands; however, she is very stubborn and wants to do things her own way. Helen is food aggressive, with both people and other dogs. She guards her dish and will sneer, bear teeth and lunge at anything she sees as a threat. Feeding her in another location away from other animals is recommended. Helen does struggle with traveling and going for walks. We believe due to her limited sight; she becomes very scared. However, at times she does well in the wilderness/trails/ and beaches if there is limited people and loud noises, but walking in a neighborhood and park has its challenges. Most of the time Helen is a very happy, wiggly dog who still likes to nibble on you when saying hello. She can be cuddly, sweet, and playful. However, she struggles with some aggression toward both dogs, cats and her owners when it comes to food, and being redirected. She does play well most of the time with dogs but doesn't take social cues very well and can lash out at times. Recommendation for Helen's new home: 1. Home with a fenced yard to reduce accidents within home, as well as keep her safe if she hears a loud noise outside and gets scared. 2. A home where she is the only animal 3. A home with younger kids is not recommended as she gets territorial with her things. Older kids (jr. high-high school) could be okay, however, again, she is territorial so I would rely on caution. 4. A home with limited stairs as she struggles with them Please let me know if you have any questions or know of anyone who would be interested in meeting Helen. I do work from home and can answer texts. We appreciate your help.
