About Jack

Lab / American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

'Meet Jack, the 55-pound snuggle bug with a heart that wants to win yours! This estimated 4-5 year-old black lab mix is on a mission to steal your heart and fill your days with his companionship and loyalty. Jack loves nothing more than to be by your side, soaking up every moment of your company. He can't wait to spend time with his person, whether it's a car ride or cuddling up under blankets by your side! Jack is happy to nap throughout the day, yet he is not without playful energy! House-trained with a consistent schedule, Jack loves to spend the majority of his time indoors! He prefers to sleep on his dog bed in the bedroom at night, and while he may not be a fan of long periods in a crate, we were able to trust him in our home without one while we were gone. When it comes to socializing, Jack needs a slow and proper introduction. He can be reactive to seeing other animals and people but he typically ends up getting along with them with proper introduction(animals) or when the excitement of their presence wears off (people). Without the use of gentle discipline and firm and consistent boundaries-Jack has bitten as he displays protection of his home/yard and his people. Some interventions/boundaries we found to be successful were potty time on a leash, outside time on an anchored line or in a yard with a tall fence as Jack is a great jumper and is able to hop over a standard fence. We also used a muzzle at routine vet visits or new meet and greets,. Creating his own area to eat his meals was beneficial as we had two other dogs. Lastly, leashed interactions with new people-giving space and allowing Jack's excitement to decrease before allowing contact with those new individuals was best for Jack to productively meet new people in the home. Jack will thrive in a quiet, adult-only home where he can feel safe and secure. New things can be scary to him, so he'll need someone patient who can teach him that the world isn't so frightening. He loves rolling around in damp towels, chewing on tough grade chew toys, and snuggling in blankets. He will be happiest with someone who can provide lots of love and reassurance. Jack requires a house environment as an apartment setting may present many people, dogs, and sounds that may cause anxiety for him. Jack may feel anxious being left alone as he gets acclimated to a new schedule, with time he was more than reliable to calmly take a nap until we returned home. Jack did best in the open mainfloor of our home instead of being secluded in a back room while we were away! If you're ready to welcome a furry friend who will fill your life with loyalty and endless affection, then Jack is the perfect match for you.
