Australian Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Oakley is a 4 year old 55lb Male Mini Australian Shepherd. Though his breed is a Mini, Oakley is roughly the size of a small Standard Australian Shepherd. He is up to date on his shots including kennel cough and rabies. He was neutered shortly after turning 1. Oakley is a high energy dog who enjoys playing frisbee and pushing his herding ball around for hours on end. He also does well on a leash when going for walks. He is fully house/potty trained. My Wife and I have made the difficult decision to rehome Oakley due to safety concerns of our growing family. We currently have two young children. Over the last couple of years, Oakley has become more and more territorial of our home, making it impossible to have guests over (including barking when we receive deliveries or he sees a car in our driveway he does not recognize). I want to be clear, he has not bit or latched on to anyone, but as this breed does, has nipped a couple close friends/ family members and will charge toward anyone he doesn't know in an aggressive manner. The behavior is worse when he is at our home and seems to lessen once he gets to know someone, for example he no longer demonstrates this behavior aggressively when he is taken to the vet or groomer. The ideal home for Oakley will be with someone that is active and can commit to activities with him on a daily basis (outside play, walks, etc.). Oakley needs someone that has room for him to run without the worry of others around. We would not recommend a busy home with other pets or children until his new owners are confident in his demeanor. We want him to have a fresh start with someone who has the time to devote to him to train through these behaviors. My wife and I have not made this decision lightly, as Oakley is a loving dog and companion to our family and to those he knows. We want to make sure he is going to the right home and able to live the life he needs and deserves. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
