About Scout

Scout is still available and needs a new home ASAP. This is Scout, he's a pure-bred blue heeler and his traits, character, and temperament reflect this. If you are interested or willing to open your home to him please READ THE ENTIRE POST and look in the comments for his rehoming fee. Scout is 1 year and 5 months old, born on Feb 9th 2023. He would flourish in a rural setting where he can run and roam protecting his people and home. He does okay with other dogs but becomes aggressive over food and toys. He's highly food motivated and has learned commands such as: Sit, stay, come, leave it, down, shake (paw), roll over, and spin. He's a very smart dog that will need constant mental stimulation. He does well on a leash and loves to explore the trails. His recall is good and will come when called, of course this can be situational. He does decent on car rides but will bark on occasion when he spots something interesting. Having strangers approach the vehicle is a no-go as he will bark (drive thru and coffee stands). This goes for his home as well. Scout will become over-excited when visitors are in his home and demand constant attention from them via barking. He has a history of nipping and biting strangers and will need a slow and proper introduction. Scout also has a high prey drive. He will not do well with children ages under 13. Scout is crate trained, house-broken, and does well off leash in a controlled environment away from traffic. He is UTD on all shots, licenses, and is neutered. I am not sure how he will do in a home with cats, or other animals or with livestock. I am hoping someone out there can offer Scout a more fulfilling life than we can by giving him room to roam, a job, or one-on-one time to further his training. Please inquire only if you have experience with this breed or other herding/working dogs as I want his next home to be understanding, patient, loving, and ultimately successful.
