About Bleu

Adoption Fee: $50
Australian Shepherd mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Breed: Australian Shepard Color: Blue merle tricolor Where did you get this dog? PACC How long have you had this dog? almost 2 years Veterinarian: VCA Medical issues: He does have anxiety and takes hemp oil ----------Surrender Information---------- Reasons for surrender: Issues with family in home Additional behavior concerns: Does have prey drive (especially with lizards, birds, and snakes), high energy with other dogs, reactivity on leash that he has made a lot of progress towards, very hyper, mouthy, does resource guard his crate space Explain any behavior issues: My brother for the last 2 years has either not been present or has refused to interact with Bleu. So, they don't have a relationship. My brother returned to live with us, and we have kept them separate to manage. The incident that happened was Bleu was being let inside and was heading down the hall to go to his crate. At the same time my brother entered from the other side of the hall, and they collided. Bleu jumped and bite at my brother on the left arm (no skin broken), who then kneed him in the chest to get him off. My father threw treats in Bleus crate, and he immediately went in with no further issue. He has had on and off guarding of his crate space that I personally have tried other work arounds and have consulted with trainers about. Recently since we moved his crate into the room at the end of the hall, he has felt confined by the hallway and wants it to be completely clear when he goes in his crate. The change in his crate space is due to the fact that his last crate placement was not ideal due to his reactivity to my brother, so he was moved to limit the stress in the home. Behavior issues detail: Destructive: - will chew on things, but is crated and has chews to mess with and is fine, never left out alone unsupervised Guarding: Guards his crate space from pets/people, if its placed in a low traffic area he does fine Towards men: - With enough introduction can be fine with them, he just needs people to go slow, and they need to respect his space, also needs a lot of positive interaction Towards kids: - | Ages: Has not lived with children but watches them from afar for socialization Towards other dogs: On leash - reacts if they do, in the home has lived with 2 dogs, he can be a lot and should be monitored when playing but does not meet dogs regularly, is muzzle trained and recommend it as he is very mouthy with play Dogs Ages: 16yrs, 3yrs | Dogs Sizes: both large (1 golden retriever, 1 husky mix) Towards cats: on ground level will chase but has never hurt, eye level or above literally pretends they don't exist Towards livestock: n/a Separation Anxiety, crate training? Is crate trained, will bark for a couple minutes initially unless he really needs to pee or eat Fearful of new people, tried separating? Is nervous of new people, is crated when new people visit and does not interact initially when meeting new people out and about, I do not allow new people to touch him until he is comfortable Bite(s): 2 (No skin broken on either), 1 to my dad over 1yr ago due to crate guarding and protesting going in crate, 1 to my brother recently during the situation above. ----------Experience Information---------- Experience with young children: No experience Experience with small dogs: No experience Experience with big dogs: Mixed, depends on the other dog and how they react to him Experience with cats: Mixed, does do fine overall but does chase and needs to continue training Where is the dog when left alone? In a crate inside Is the dog house/potty trained? Yes, will bark when he needs to go, does great on a schedule Which of these describes the dog? Walks on leash, is crate trained, housebroken, rides in cars well, muzzle trained, playful, loyal, affectionate, big cuddler Any funny stories or additional information? Bleu is a very energetic boy and loves to play fetch (well more like he chases then doesn't bring back). He loves to carry one in his mouth and then chase the 2nd one and swaps the frisbees out. He is very vocal and loves to talk to you or demand like a kid. He is incredible smart and lovable! He used to be very reactive but with patience and consistency I have gotten him to the point where he can tolerate seeing 95% of people and reacts to dogs only if they, are within 30ftish or if they are reactive to him. He is a great dog and just wants to be attached at the hip at all times and loves to discover things. He naturally wears a muzzle because he likes to scavenge and is very comfortable with it for any future vet/grooming visits. He also has m multiple different puzzles he has learned to solve and is very stubborn about them. He LOVES food and loves to learn with food.
