About Smokey

Smokey is a sweet, loving dog. He is very attached to the two moms that live in his house. He has never been a fan of kids, we worked with him a lot to get to the point where he is happy with them about 80% of the time. He however does not like any visitors to the house. We have to be very cautious and strategic about how we introduce him to anyone else. We have 6 kids with special needs that we homeschool and the level of care Smokey needs is not working for us. If our kids were grown, he'd be a great fit but after two years of trying to get it to work here with a professional dog trainer by our side, supporting us, we made the hard decision to start discussing re-homing. Then yesterday, he charged a neighbor kid that didn't give us a warning he was coming in the door. Smokey's charging and behavior was a warning sign that we don't want to ignore. He did bite the child but it barely broke skin, looked more like a scrape. Our humane society won't rehome him, they'd euthanize him and we don't want that. Help please!
