Hello kelpie lovers! %9D%A4%8F I am currently located in Nederland, Colorado. At the edge of the beautiful Indian Peaks Wilderness. (Please text me if you're interested in bringing a world of happiness into Rubys life!) I am a (just turned) 2 red and tan kelpie. My human mom suffered a severe tbi and I have been staying with her friend for awhile to see if she could recover enough to bring Rubes home. It's been a few months and it's been decided that Ruby can not return to her mom. She's a fully loaded freight train of happiness and energy! She knows some basic commands and is reliable on her recall inside a fenced yard. She has always been walked on leash. By herself, she doesn't pull her mom, but when she walks with other dogs, she wants to win the race! I don't know if she would run off, but I'm not going to risk it. Her mom took her to breweries, camping and hiking, boating and dog parks. She loves to be loved. She's snuggly and quite the licker. Your face will be cleaned every time you bend over to put her harness on. She loves to snuggle in bed, too. But without being a bed hog. If I need more space she quickly obliges. She has a high herding/prey drive although, if smaller critters don't run, she doesn't bother with them. In the house, I have 4 cats. 2 of which she doesn't bother because they don't react. 2 cats run and she chases. If they stop, she stops chasing. There is no drama if she corners or catches the runners. She will downward dog pose asking for them to play, they swat her nose saying 'no' and that's the end of it. No danger or harm to kitties, just disappointment when they reject her. I would not have her with children under 12ish, primarily because she is that fully loaded freight train and will bowl them over when she zooms thru the house. She does not resource guard, that I've seen, but I'm on top of that because I have a current foster who does. I don't give my guarding foster the opportunity to get snarky with anyone, so everyone is fed separately and I don't play toys with them because guarding foster will get all upset. Ruby does not show any indication of resource guarding. This morning she and 3 other dogs (I have 6 dogs right now!!!) were peacefully eating breakfast in the kitchen. They were bowl switching without any drama. We can do treats side by side (she has a very soft mouth taking treats) but no meals and no high value chewing toys. Again, because my other foster resource guards anything of value. She's not alpha in the hierarchy. If she plays too rough and gets scolded by one of the other dogs, she goes belly up in apology. She loves to play ball. She has quite a collection of balls and if you don't play with her, she'll find a ball and play on her own! All good things She is working on 'leave it' while in the car. She gets really worked up about people we pass if they are walking dogs. It always seems to happen in the car. She gets excited around dogs while walking on lead, and has jumped into play while walking, but the car rides are different. She WILL jump out of an open car window, so windows need be locked when she's in the car. She's mouthy. You'll see this when you've been away from her. You walk thru the door and she nibbles on your fingertips or forearms- not really even pinching, but you will feel her teeth. (My foster collies have pinched enough to leave bruises!) She usually runs to her chosen greeting location and rolls belly up waiting for you to follow and give her lovins. She's very smart (smarter than me!) wanting to please, pretty easy keeper. She has that herding intensity and likes it when she has something to do. She does need help with walking on lead and not being so aggressive toward people/dogs outside of the car (This only happens sometimes, but she has quite the bark) Her mom is terribly sad to lose this special pup. We're sure hoping to help her find her loving forever family. Perhaps it's YOU! %9D%A4%8F Thanks for reading this. Ruby is in Nederland, Colorado. Transportation can be arranged.
