About Emily

Golden Retriever
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Meet Emily, a 1 1/2 year old golden girl who, through no fault of her own, ended up homeless. Emily spent a lot of time in the backyard with her two Golden brothers, so she was not exposed to 'life in the open' much. But today, she is blossoming and learning to love life and not be so fearful of everything! We've discovered many things that Emily likes She loves walks, and hanging out with other dogs, and meeting nice, respectful dogs and people on her walks. Human attention, belly rubs and cuddles, and being wherever you are. She like to sleep in bed (if it's cool) She will cuddle, and tuck her head into your tummy. She won't get up until you do! Early mornings she sneaks away to get a ball or toy, brings it back to bed, and falls asleep again. Leaning up against your leg if she's unsure of a situation (Emily is still a bit timid of new things out in the world) BALLS! She is more motivated by a ball being thrown than by $10,000-treats! That said, she won't bring it back (this needs work) And she won't stop until you stop! Finally, she started playing with toys! Throwing them in the air, chasing, shaking and loping around being goofy. Sometimes, she will gather them all together and lay amongst them, happy as can be. Exercise - walks, running fast and long ( for the ball), taking a dip in the kiddy pool, throwing her toys around, bugging you to play, meeting the neighbors and their dogs, watching other dogs run and sometimes joining in on a short chase. While Emily has lots of energy to play and run around, she is also able to settle down nicely. She gets along very well with other dogs and takes great comfort from them. She likes people who are patient when approaching her. Once she warms up, she'll be on your lap in no time! Emily needs work on: Recall - she's sometimes afraid to come to you. But we're showing her she only gets love and soft pets when she does. Generally she rolls over immediately, and she gets a quick belly rub to satisfy that need. Bringing the ball back during the fetch process Being more confident and comfortable riding in the car Basic commands like Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Wait, Drop It (the ball) Find It (a game) What Emily needs in her new family: We would like another confident dog in her forever home to show her the ways of the world. Emily watches the other dogs and has learned a lot from her exposure in Foster Care. If your family can offer her regular play dates, that might be sufficient as well. Only older kids (15+) and ones that will respect her shyness and timidness when it appears Positive reinforcement - this method has helped build her confidence. This needs to continue Medium energetic family who is a regular, daily walker and will give her consistent exercise AM and PM. Basic Training group class - her people will greatly benefit from a group class. Plus, Emily will love the other dog interactions and treats without the BALL present! If you feel your family has what it takes to fulfill Emily's needs and coexist with her shy, sweet personality, please fill out our adoption application.
