Siberian Husky / German Shepherd

Name: Sierra Spunk, The Playful Dynamo of Delight Breed: Shepherd / Siberian Husky Mix Sex: Spayed female Age: 1 year Weight: 52 lbs Hi! My name is Sierra, and it's a good name for me because I love being outside in the mountains! I'm a young girl who had a scare as a puppy and almost lost my leg - but the nice doctors saved it, and now I'm a healthy, energetic girl who loves to have fun! I run so fast, and wrestle with my friends, and play with toys, and make my humans smile and laugh with my goofy antics. I missed some important chances to learn while I was recovering, so I know I still have things to work on as I grow out of my puppy phase. The biggest thing is just knowing how to relax! Apparently my human and dog friends don't always want to play all day?! And don't get me started on strangers - they tell me I need to not woof so much because they might be my forever family! But I've been trying really hard, and learning a lot, and I promise I'll do my best to be the best girl! Needs Experienced Adopter Good with dogs? Yes, she loves playing with other dogs! She's a high-energy girl who is still learning how to take breaks and some other manners, so supervised play with high-energy, accommodating dogs would be best. Good with cats? No Good with kids? Not tested, but her energy and lack of body control are things to work on if she'll be around kids. Medical/Behavioral needs: Sierra is a survivor! As a puppy, she suffered a broken leg and paw injury that nearly led to amputation, but her limb was saved. Unfortunately, she had to be on cage rest to recover, so she's eager to make up for lost play and learning time. Sierra is very excitable, loves to jump, and barks at new people and dogs. She has shown some resource guarding tendencies around her food, crate, toys, and favorite people, but this has been much improved and fully manageable by feeding her separately and keeping an eye on her other cues. Energy level: High! If she had her way, she'd play all day, and have outdoor adventures all the time. Even after a long walk or play session, she won't automatically settle down to relax. She does great in her crate when she could use a reminder to take a nap or otherwise needs a break. Mental stimulation can also burn some of her energy - she's been having fun and making lots of progress training with her foster parents, though she can get distracted or give up if she doesn't understand what she's supposed to be learning or if a puzzle toy is too difficult. Animal Characteristics: Sierra is a sweet, loving girl - she's just still working on showing it appropriately. She's learned not to give little love nibbles, but will still jump up on people when she's excited to see them. Sierra has an adventurous spirit. She loves hikes - regular walks too, but she needs to get used to (quietly) sharing the trail or sidewalk with other people and dogs. But it is possible to spend a relaxed evening snuggled up on the couch if she gets enough activity and stimulation during the day :) And while she's working out some of these puppy behaviors, it's impossible to stay annoyed at that goofy face! She will thrive in an active forever home with or without canine siblings and with pawrents willing to be patient as she grows out of her puppy phase and continues her training progress.
