About Trout

Adoption Fee: $25
Golden Retriever
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Hi, I'm Trout! I am a 2.5 year old English Cream Golden Retriever. I was born in Virginia, I am a female, and I was spayed after going through heat two times. I am very healthy. I have had very few health problems in my life (and I have the paperwork to back it up!). I take Simparica Trio once a month to protect me from ticks, fleas, and heartworm because I love to walk and play outside. I weigh about 60 pounds, and I have always been at a healthy weight for my size. I have been through a lot of training in my short life. I have worked with trainers for almost 1.5 years, and they have taught me a lot about controlling my impulses and being able to relax. I have made a lot of progress, and I have learned that I thrive in structure. I love my platform bed (place) and I can stay on it for a really long time. I love chewing on bene bones, the fish shaped one is my favorite. My family loves me very much, but my need for structure and my family's young baby (and another on the way) are not a great match. I have a tendency to resource guard, and I can be especially guarding of my space, territory, and toys. I would do best in a family without kids, because I don't do great in a high energy environment with unpredictable movements near my space. I have bitten one of my owners once and I broke the skin. This was about 1.5 years ago when I found a rubber band on the ground and my owner tried to get it out of my mouth. Since then, my owners and I have spent a lot of time working on 'drop it' and redirecting my attention to a high value alternative (like tasty treat, yum!). I have made a lot of really great strides, and I will continue to with a focus on training. I do still sometimes growl when my space is invaded (like when I am on place and somebody quickly moves toward me) or someone is taking something from me (like a bone I am chewing or resting on). I have worked really hard to be more calm and patient. I have never shown aggression toward other dogs (I love other dogs!), nor have I shown aggression at any time other than when I feel cornered or someone tries to take my stuff. My family feels that it is too much of a risk for me to be in a house with small children, and wants to find a family that can provide me with the safe, stable place that I can be my best self in. I am crate trained really well. I sleep in a crate every night, and I am happy to go take a break inside when I need to calm down. I love exercise, especially walks, playing with the ball and frisbee at the beach, and running into the ocean. I love getting long pets and massages, especially on my belly, my ears, and my shoulders. I would love to meet you if you think you might want to meet me. Please call my owners, Mike and Lizzie, at (617) 257-3038 or email them at [email protected]. They would be happy to tell you more about me, and answer any questions you might have! Have a great day! My New Home Needs: - I should not be in a home with kids or owners who plan to have kids. - I will do best with owners who have the ability to give me exercise. - I will live my best life with owners who can provide me with structure in my life to set me up best for success. - I think I could live comfortably with another dog - but we should definitely meet first. - I will do best with plenty of love and patience. My Specific tendencies - I can exhibit resource guarding tendencies when it comes to items like my food, my toys/bones, and my space. I should not be allowed on couches or beds because I can become possessive of the space I am occupying. I do best on my platform bed or the ground. I growl if someone tries to take my food before I am done or my bones when I am chewing them. That said, I respond very well to 'trading up' or diverting my attention to something else, like a treat or, my favorite, ice cubes! - I will warn you before I snap by growling. - Generally what I don't like are situations where I feel trapped/enclosed/claustrophobic, or where things move unpredictably around me (like a small child). I can become anxious quickly, so a home with stable energy will be best for me. My Best Qualities - I have gone through a lot of training. I am crate trained very well and I sleep in it every night. During the day whenever my owners leave the house I can stay in my crate, and I can also go inside to talk breaks during the day. - I love my platform bed (place). I have done a ton of work on place, and I can stay on it comfortably for a long time or until you tell me I can 'break.' - I love meeting new people - in a scenario where I don't feel crowded or claustrophobic I am very friendly and loving. - I thrive on structure and exercise. I walk every day (and I'm actually a great walker), and I love going to the beach and goofing around in the sand and the waves. - I have been both muzzle trained and E-collar trained and respond well to both. - I do well with other dogs - I love running around with new friends
