About Nina

Adoption Fee: $300
Shih Tzu
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Nina is a 5-year-old Shih Tzu weighing 14 pounds. Bexar County Animal Control removed Nina and her 15-yr-old companion from a horrid abandonment situation. Both dogs were neglected to the extent that they required shaving under anesthesia. Poquita Paws completed their grooming, and both were evaluated and treated by a vet.%A0Nina required a dental involving the extraction of several teeth.%A0 Initially Nina was terrified of us and everything around her. She found some comfort and companionship with the 2 dogs sharing her area. Her behavior from the beginning when anxious or excited is to spin. The sound of trash trucks and other large engines triggers Nina's anxiety. When there are changes in her environment or if she is home alone during trash pick-up, she is likely to have some housebreaking relapses. Daily doses of CBD calming chews improve her quality of life and will need to be included in her care regimen indefinitely. Nina has changed dramatically since her coming to PPR. She is much more interactive and tolerates people and dogs better. Her episodes of spinning have definitely decreased with time. She can now come to you in a straight line and easily wait to be picked up. Nina is a steadfast companion and likes to lounge in whatever room her people are in, content to nap or chew on a bully stick. She does not like to be kenneled but will tolerate a small area when left home alone for a few hours. Nina is calm in the car and looks forward to car rides. Leash walking is challenging due to the spinning, but fortunately Nina does not require a lot of exercise. Nina will definitely do best in a quiet home with a predictable routine. She is typically quiet, but will grumble when she thinks it's bedtime. Nina is not aggressive but we do not recommend a home with children.
