About Zoey

Adoption Fee: $100
Australian Cattle Dog / Pit Bull
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Zoey had 24 hours before being euthanized in a high kill shelter because of overcrowding. Zoey was a COVID pup that was returned when restrictions were lifted; the owner gave fantastic reviews of their time with her. The 2nd adopter ran into landlord issues that became financial too. This was the feedback from the shelter: 'We only had positive experiences with Zoey at the shelter.' Zoey is affectionate, sweet and eager to please' .Does well in a playgroup of more gentle dogs and is social, tolerant and playful'.First owner stated she is: 'sweet, protective, energetic and did well with children and their bunny'.Best in a home as the only dog ,or dog of same age and children over 15. We see all of that in Zoey and she is very smart and quick to learn. When in the second shelter the dog playgroup attacked her and so she is anxious and cautious around other dogs until she gets to know them. Zoey can walk with and chill in the living room with our dog BUT cannot be off leash because that is when she wants to play with him. She should not have to be tethered. She needs a strong personality in an owner so she can feel that leadership which helps her relax and trust . Zoey does need some behavior training for her walks on leash. We are happy to pay for at least half of that training and we have trainers ready to go in San Diego County,Los Angeles County and if you are living elsewhere we are happy to drive and know the nationwide company that offers Lifetime Guarantee for all stages of a dogs life. Zoey has a clean bill of health, she had a vet visit in her first week with us.She has only been with us 4 weeks. Why can we not keep her? It breaks our hearty as we have never experienced this with any of our rescue dogs: We have another dog ,he is a senior and is fragile due to severe torture and abuse before we rescued him . He does not want Zoey around as he is not able to play with her and feels very vulnerable. Zoey really wants to play with him but he is unable to and has snapped at her which considering what already happened with other dogs we do not want her to feel threatened by him. After a consult with our vet and a behaviorist they both said that it is not a good match for him or her.
