About Tyson

Tyson is an intact male Rottweiler who will be 4 years old on August 9th, 2024. His owner is no longer able to care for him and he is neglected because of that. They owned him since he was a puppy. He was diagnosed with heart disease (dilated cardiomyopathy) at 1 years old and must have activity restrictions but his condition is well-controlled on medication. His life span will be shorter due to this condition. He has Trupanion pet insurance that covers 90% of the cost of his medications and sick visits (this insurance follows him to a new owner). He is about 100 pounds living in an average-sized apartment and he is often in a crate. He has allergies (suspect environmental) and some behavioral issues (he is very crate aggressive, but will get into the trash and eat things if out of the crate unsupervised; he is a good boy once you let him out of the crate). Tyson was not properly trained or socialized as a puppy. He was great with a newborn in the house who is now 2 years old, and he gets along with other dogs. With the proper TLC, he would be a wonderful companion. He is a loyal and smart dog who just wants attention and to be loved. He can be mouthy when begging for attention. He hates going to the veterinarian and is aggressive when he goes in, but does okay when mildly sedated with medications given at home prior to visits. When he does go on walks (on an extremely rare occasion), he has never been aggressive toward other dogs walking by and he does not pull.
