About Rueger

We are looking to re-home our 4.5 year old Aussie, Rueger. He's very energetic and loves to play and go for walks. He is about 40 pounds, potty trained, fixed and up-to-date on shots and vaccines. Rue would do best outside the city in a large field or somewhere to play off leash. He is extremely reactive to other dogs and other animals. He is also an anxious and nervous dog - big vehicles, vacuums, motors, etc. When he gets anxious, his herding instincts kick in - barking, lounging, nipping. We have attempted several years of training with no luck in improving this behavior. Rue, like many Aussies, is extremely smart. He learns patterns quickly. Tricks, ring doorbell sounds, phone calls, etc. If there's a pattern, he'll pick up on it. He's also very athletic. Throw him anything and he'll catch it and bring it back to you. Although we've never tried, we think he would learn well with an animal/farm approach where he can run on instincts rather than in a city where he doesn't thrive. We wouldn't recommend Rue to be around little kids - he does not respond well to loud, unexpected noises like yelling or clapping, and his herding instincts kick in. Overall he is a great dog, but as we transition into expanding our family, we cannot keep him. We are happy to provide 6+ months of his heart worm medication as well as his bed upon rehoming.
