Name: Ruger Age: DOB 11/18/2016 Breed: Lab Mix, 56 pounds Sex: Male (confirmed neutered) Location: Lee County, FL Vet Info: Ruger is confirmed neutered. He tested heartworm negative at his last heartworm test on 9/1/2023. He is next due for his rabies and distemper vaccines on 8/31/2026. Ruger is blind due to SARDS, which was diagnosed four years ago. Dog Info: Ruger is a gorgeous boy in need of a new home. He is looking for a home with no children. His owner writes, 'I wish to find a loving home for my dog because we no longer have the ability to fit his needs. he loves a quiet home with no children. he shows aggression towards kids but has never shown aggression with an adult or other dogs.' Ruger is an indoor dog with run of the house. He is housebroken and leash trained, and his owners tell us he knows the commands, Sit, Stay, and Come. Ruger's owner tells us he is good with both men and women, but needs a home without children as he has shown aggression on several occasions with her two year old, and gave us more details: 'He has snapped at my 2 yr old on three different occasions. He has not ever bitten her or anyone.' His owner also writes that he lives with a pit mix who is almost five, and does fine, and that he is not possessive of food, treats, or toys. Ruger's owner wants us to know more about him: 'Ruger is a sweetheart. He did wonderfully in our home since he was 5 months old when we adopted him. He adapted well to another dog in our home when he was 3. He lost his eyesight when he turned 4. The vet diagnosed him with Sudden Onset Retinal Disease. Since he has lost his eyesight he is very mellow and loves to nap and cuddle. He does not like children or small kids. He does well with other dogs and adults.' We're told Ruger is in good health, and his owner gave more details: 'He was diagnosed with SARDS 4 years ago. We have had Ruger since he was 5 months old. He has peripheral vision but cannot otherwise see....He is in good health he does have a lump on the side of his head the vet said it was not harmful just cosmetic.' His owner also wants us to know, 'Ruger is a sweetheart. I have tried to separate him from my toddler in our everyday but my daughter loves the other dog so much she doesnt know that he cannot see and startles him. Ruger has shown too much aggression with her and has snapped at her three times and I cannot risk anything happening. Ruger would be best in a home with an older couple or single home with no kids. He loves other dogs. He is a couch potato and loves to snuggle. He would love a home where it is quiet and does great with elderly.' **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them.
