About Kohl

Adoption Fee: $350
Komondor / Great Pyrenees
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

I write with a heavy heart from Wimberley, Texas, in the hope for a better life for my 3.5 year old (born October 10, 2020) livestock guardian dog, Kohl. Kohl has spent his entire life in the company of goats, chickens, a goose, cats, and a persnickety chihuahua. He has been around children enough accept commands like 'sit' from a five-year-old. Kohl's mother is 100% Komondor; his father is 50% Great Pyrenees and 50% Anatolian. Although a stellar livestock guardian dog, Kohl loves to spend time in the house and is completely potty trained. He is protective if someone approaches the paddock fence but warms readily to people introduced by me when I bring them into the paddock for a proper introduction. Recently, a cruel and harassing neighbor planted ultrasonic devices on my property harming Kohl and my sweet goats. I have also watched this neighbor harass Kohl from over the fence. Although all my non-human residents are allowed in my neighborhood, this neighbor - after four years of living next door to them - has inexplicably and irrationally decided they are a nuisance. The sheriff's department has told this neighbor that he cannot come onto my property to install such devices or harass the animals in any way. Nevertheless, Kohl and the goats act strangely from time to time, making me think a sonar is sometimes activated. I cannot have my animals harmed in this way and am concerned what other measures my neighbor might take . . . to the extent that I have found a sanctuary for my goats and am looking for a safer environment for Kohl. I am currently working with Elizabeth Ingalls (https://www.elizabethingalls.com/) on some behavior issues that Kohl started having after my neighbor put up the first sonar device. I would want his foster and/or his new owner to continue these sessions, and I am more than willing to pay for this service. Elizabeth is wonderful and has agreed to work with anyone Kohl might live with in the future. Please know I am willing to contribute up to $100 per month toward Kohl's care while in foster care and/or adjusting to his new home. . . and perhaps beyond that. While this situation is somewhat pressing, I am completely amenable to making do here. I will drive him anywhere in the country to ensure he gets to the best home possible. Kohl means the world to me, and I want the best for him. As painful as this letter has been to write, I believe it is in Kohl's best interest. Thank you for your consideration. Please also see attached pictures of Kohl. You may contact me at 512.442.7700, if you or anyone you know could help and/or might be a good fit.
