About Wilbur

Wilbur is a beautiful looking, goofy dog with some behavioral issues. In short Wilbur is very aggressive towards anyone we have over to the house (he lives inside at our house) and is also aggressive to other dogs or people on walks in the neighborhood. As a result we have been working with a trainer to address these issues and for awhile we felt we were making good progress but recently Wilbur has been aggressive a few times with my wife (we believe it's a form of resource guarding me against her). After discussing this with our trainer as well as the fact that my wife is pregnant with our first child, we've decided Wilbur is not a good fit and will not be trained well enough by the time the baby comes. We do believe he is trainable on some of these issues and that he would do very well in a home without children. While he is aggressive with other dogs and people, we have found that once he becomes accustomed to people or dogs he loves to be around them. There are 3 or 4 dogs he loves to play with that he was originally very aggressive towards and I think he might do well living with another large dog that could correct and play with him. He loves being outside and while he's been an inside dog at our house (potty trained and sleeps in a crate at night) I think he'd love to live outside and would be much happier with more land and independence.
