About Athena

Athena is a lovely little lady. She is a F, 5 y/o, Pit/Australian Shepherd mix. Approx. 53-55 lb. Spayed and shot UTD. Medical records available. She comes from New Jersey, where she was rescued and brought to NYC. Due to housing issues, her current owner is unable to house her, and she has been temporarily fostered nearby while looking for her forever home. Athena would do well with an owner experienced and equipped for high energy breeds. She is leash, crate, and house trained. She has had formal obedience training in the past, and new owners will have to be willing to reinforce. She would do best in a home without other pets or children. Athena is very affectionate but also appreciates her alone time, kinda like a cat. She is great on leash, though you will have to make sure she doesn't eat things off of the street. Very energetic and playful. Athena has a few ticks: she licks a lot, may become vocal for attention, and also takes medication once daily for anxiety. All in all, she really is an angel and deserves to be treated as such! History Athena is a rescue dog who came from New Jersey in 2022. She was unfortunately abandoned at a veterinarian's office by a previous owner and was adopted due to area shelters being at capacity. Little is known about her life before arriving at the vet's office in 2022. She's believed to have sustained a dog bite and also had a number of injuries on her face and legs. She's healed nicely from those injuries without much long-term intervention. Personality Athena is confident, loyal, and energetic. At home, she is generally gentle and quiet, but can be vocal at doorbells. She loves being outside in nature, and would enjoy a home with a backyard or near a park. Cohabitation Athena should have an owner with no other pets or children present at home. She's greatly improved in leash reactivity, and often can ignore animals and children on the street for the most part. Food Athena enjoys different fruits and vegetables in addition to her dog food. She currently eats Purina kibble. She does not like leafy greens. She likes melon, mangoes, berries, pumpkin, and mushrooms among others. She can have raw chicken bones in moderation. Medical Athena has a history of upset stomach, and does well with probiotics and/or an occasional bland diet. DHPP, Lepto, and Rabies shots are UTD.
