About Lily

Australian Cattle Dog mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Lily is a strong, smart, fast and beautiful mix breed. We are the first owners and we're there when she was born on April 6, 2021. We don't know who her dad was, but her mom is half blue heeler, mixed with several other breeds. Lily is 29lbs. I put that she needs vaccines because we work with a more naturally minded vet who doesn't recommend giving shots every year. Lily received all the recommended puppy shots and was going to continue the more delayed schedule recommended by our vet. She takes monthly heart worm prevention. She is also taking an herbal remedy to hopefully calm some of her anxiety and fear. I put that Lily is good with most dogs, because she does become comfortable with other dogs after given a little time and space. She initially nips in fear and then will run and play if given space. We think she would be happier with a dog friend in the house. Lily should not live in a home with small children as they stress her out and she has given warning growls to our daughter. Due to the heeler in her she prefers her people and is suspicious of others. She likes men and women who she's comfortable with, but there are both men and women who she simply doesn't like. She barks at them a lot and has snapped at someone before. When she was 1yo, she did nip a neighbor's hand. It did not draw blood and is characteristic of the heeler in her. When Lily is given plenty of vigorous exercise each day (1hr+), she is much more calm. She is protective of her people and that can be intimidating for most people, so she shouldn't be expected to be overly social with everyone. Recommendations given for raising blue heelers would apply to Lily. She is an excellent dog in the right circumstance. We love her dearly, but our family has grown since adopting her from a puppy, and that has been a stress to her. We are her first owners. The ideal place for Lily to thrive would be in a home with adults who are calm, are not stressed by the intensity and energy of blue heelers, with no small children, not much travel where you would have to leave her with others, active family who would get her running and using her very sharp mind through play, tricks, and obedience practice. She is very loyal and glued to her people. Very affectionate! She is extremely smart and learns quickly. She is crate trained and sleeps calmly in her crate when we have to leave the house and at night. When guests come who are not used to her, we crate her in another area of the house.
