PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. 7-year-old male Chihuahua, about 12 pounds. Meet Butz, pronounced 'Boots', is a good looking, blue merle Chihuahua! Butz was an owner surrender from a breeder. He spent his life with her making lots of babies before she needed to move in with family. Butz is very strong in mind & body. He is a dog that will run off, if he gets outside on his own. A dog savvy home and fenced yard are necessary for this strong-willed boy. Butz would prefer to not be home alone all day as he is very used to having a person around all the time. He does get along well with other dogs in the home, if given a proper introduction. Just make sure he gets his fair share of love and hugs. He will give you kisses and an occasional smile. Butz loves to eat a variety of vegetables along with his regular dog food. He is sweet and cuddly with his family, but he is fearful and scared of the world outside of his house and yard, although he seems to want to explore it, if given a chance! Butz does tend to be leash reactive and will need further training in this regard. Butz does have a mild heart murmur but does not currently need medication. He will need annual checkups to monitor his heart. Butz needs some further leash manners! He pulls and tries to run most of the time. He IS capable of walking under control but needs a reminder every day to be calm. His walk is always productive as he will pee several times and always poops twice within the first few minutes. His walk is usually short as he gets tired and out of breath, so he finishes his walk being carried or riding in a pet stroller. He is a bit fearful/scared of the world outside of his house and yard, although he loves a ride in the car. Butz had a lack of proper socialization as a young dog and struggles with being calm around anyone other than his family. Outside he will uncontrollably bark aggressively when seeing another dog, cat, bike or person of any age. He needs reminders to leave it or be calm, although this only works if you see the threat first. Inside he has the same problem if not slowly introduced to your house guest(s). This issue can be corrected with the proper balanced training methods. He, of course, prefers to always go with you but does well on his own unless there is a knock at the door or an unexpected noise then he will bark. Butz does enjoy being cuddled and petted, but he is not overly needy. He looks forward to a good back rub and a bit of petting first thing in the morning.
