About Charlie

Charlie is an 8-9 (exact age unknown I adopted her in 2017) year old Australian Cattle dog mix about 30 lbs. She is SUPER sweet and loyal and protective of me (her mom). We are having a baby soon and she doesn't do well with kids- she tries to herd them. She has a really gentle personality at home- I would call it docile. She doesn't beg to walk or go to the park but when she does she gets a lot of energy and loves it. She is both cuddly and independent- will go upstairs and lay down by herself or snuggle up to you depending on the time. She is good with other dogs, my husband brought two to our family when he moved in, a golden and a black lab. At first she asserted dominance with the female black lab but they are all best buds since. She would need to be in a home with a fenced yard or be on a leash to be let out as she will explore otherwise. She is very agile and can jump a 4 ft fence if she sees a mailman etc so it would have to be the right setting for her to be safe. She will bark at dogs on a leash, she is perfect at the dog park. She would do best in a family with no kids and with relatively low amount of new people coming and going. She has to warm up to new people coming in our house and make sure I'm safe. Once she knows she's safe she just wants to be pet and rolls over, but there have been instances where she will nip someone's ankle if that exchange doesn't happen right- before she feels safe. We have to be there to show people how to approach her and afterwards it's fine. We put her away with kids as she gets fixated and has nipped them. Overall she is the best dog, so cute and fun and it is heartbreaking to not be able to safely keep her and keep our sanity.
