About Hank

Adoption Fee: $50
Doberman Pinscher / American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Hank was found at a dog park in March 2021. He had clearly been abandoned, because he was wandering around aimlessly, like he was looking for his owner. He did not have a collar or a chip. He had a broken tooth, and had a scabby elbow, like he had been kept in a crate for long periods of time. He had very bad separation anxiety, so I stayed home with him for about a week until he was comfortable enough to be alone. He has made such significant progress in the past 3 years. For example, he used to be terrified of being in a crate. Now, he is perfectly fine in his crate! He has calmed down SO much. He used to constantly need attention, but now he'll grab a toy from his toy bin and chew on it all by himself! He'll of course come up to you for the occasional tug-of-war, but then he'll lay back down and go back to chewing on his toy. He attends agility classes a few times a week, because he is still high energy. He is their STAR student (look him up at Molly's Mutt House). The other days he is perfectly content being taken on a few walks. He LOVES his snuggle time. He thinks he is a lap dog. I have trained him to stay off of the couch, but he will be THRILLED if you let him on yours so that he can lay his head in your lap. He has unfortunately had multiple instances with other dogs, where he needs to be the only dog in the house. He and my senior dog got into a fight a few weeks ago, which is why I now have to give him up. I want to make sure he goes to a home that cares for him and is willing to undertake his occasional annoying habits. For example, he is terrified of thunder. I will typically put him in his thunder jacket and give him some CBD pills to help calm him down. Please spread the word about this sweet boy who was saved from neglect 3 years ago, has turned into such a wonderful dog (minus his occasional aggression towards dogs and cats), and is ready for the next chapter in his life.
