About Harrison

Adoption Fee: $250
Persian
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Persians are a hilariously unique breed of cat and Harrison is a unique Persian. While most Persians are terrified of the wind and the great outdoors and lack most cat skills, he delights in exploring outside, basking in the sun, and chasing butterflies. He thought he almost caught a chipmunk once, but it simply squeaked and laughed at him. He's such a silly cat to have around and you will delight in watching his antics! He's very easy to catch- simply place a box out of any size, preferably too small, and within minutes a cat will occupy it. Harrison would enjoy an enclosed patio or yard space or, at the very least, nice window sills to look out of. Because he likes going outside, we have him on a flea and tick prevention. Being a white, flat-faced Persian, he requires daily eye cleaning. It can be as simple as a quick wipe with warm water on a paper towel as he walks by, or a deeper cleaning with powders and such if you really want his eyes to stay white (I will include all his eye cleaners!). He also requires daily brushing. I feed him one wet can per day with his supplement powder and do his brushing while he happily eats his can as I'm cooking breakfast for the kids- it takes only a few minutes. I've lived with Persians my entire life and he has very few fur balls he spits up compared to all the others I've had and I don't know if it's because the others licked and cleaned excessively or because we brush him daily, but it's only one every few months at-most. He tolerates baths okay, opting for the wide-eyed freeze tactic rather than panic and bolting like other Persians I've bathed, and hilariously loves calm, meditative spa music during his baths, which occur every 1-2 months. The kids think it's hilarious watching him be bathed and enjoy helping care for him. The blow dryer is another story. %A4 Good luck. Trimming and filing his claws are not a favorite activity for him. We have luck using a sedative provided by the vet combined with Feliway diffuser and little bits of ham (his favorite) to distract him. He also prefers drinking from a water fountain and doesn't like still water. He finds joy in watching water drip from the faucet or go down the toilet. He developed kidney crystals at the beginning of the year, a relatively common issue in male cats, and was treated for them and they are no longer an issue. He's a very healthy kitty! We have him on a preventative diet of Hills prescription food urinary care and daily wet canned food. He prefers consistency - wherever you place the litter box, it's best to consistently keep it there. We had issues due to having to change locations because of construction and we can't find a good spot to put one with the kids in our small home. He hasn't lived with a dog before and might find the energy of a large dog stressful, but the Feliway diffuser will be very helpful in his transition to a new home, especially if there are other pets. We have chickens and he absolutely loves sitting outside and watching them and has never harmed them. He is neutered and vaccinated. We will include the rest of the food we have on-hand, urinary care supplement, cat water fountain, litter box, toys, Feliway diffuser, flea and tick preventative, eye cleaning products, sedative medication for grooming/vet visits, and scratching post tree.
