Here is a little bit of Milo & I's story. We live in Canton, IL. Milo is 4 years old, will be 5 in September. I got him in 2019 from an Aussie breeder with my boyfriend at the time. Milo lived with me at my dads house in the country & it was perfect for him. He had the freedom he needed & was able to be active all day long. My boyfriend & I eventually split, he moved to Montana & I stayed at my dads for another year and I kept milo. In 2022 I moved to my own place in town.. a tiny home. I knew it wasn't an ideal living condition but I knew I had to make it work because it was really the only option I had. We knew what we were getting ourselves into when getting an Aussie, & it was great for the first couple years, but unforeseen things have since taken place and circumstances have changed. We've been here in our tiny home 2 years now and it's been hard on him. It not only has been taking a toll on him, but me as well. I only want the best for this dog, he is my best friend and even the thought of rehoming him breaks my heart, but I know I have to do what's best for him, & myself. I am 22 years old, and I am extremely busy working 2 jobs, & going to school full time. I also play in a band with my dad on the side. I am constantly feeling guilt because he deserves better. I take him on walks every chance I get, it's just not enough for a dog with high energy like him. I am I am struggling finding the time this dog deserves with my busy schedule as. He desperately needs someone with time and room. I believe an ideal living situation for him would be somewhere on a farm or somewhere with land, but, the most important thing for me is to find someone that is dedicated. Milo is a 60 pound, fluffy, spunky, loving, funny, sassy boy. I've notice a shift in his behavior since moving in our tiny home. He can be very anxious & I believe more socialization would help this problem but with how busy my schedule is, I struggle with finding time to be consistent in interacting him with other people and animals. Right now, he thinks his job is to protect me, and that makes it difficult to have company over. I don't have room in my house to separate him, so therefore, I try not to put him in that situation where there are new people in my house. I only seem to have this problem when it's just him & I in the house. My boyfriend(who does not live with us) can be home with him & he does not show that protective behavior with him. He knows his people, & loves them with his whole being but new people he can be eerie of. We only seem to have this problem with people at our home because he knows that is his territory that he feels he needs to protect. When we go on walks I've never seemed to have an issue with people or other animals. Only thing I've really noticed on our walks is being approached by other people. He does not seem to like that and will respond with barking and backing up to me. He has been boarded a few times while I've gone on vacation and he has done well. He is kennel trained, as we used one for him at my dads, but does not currently use one at our house. I trust him to stay out and wander around while I am gone. I have never had an issue with him tearing things up or pottying in the house. He has been my side kick on my travels in the woods and to the mountains. He is resilient and will never leave your side. He is extremely smart, as most aussies are, & knows quite a few commands. He loves to be outdoors laying in the grass, soaking up the sun. He would lay down in the sun and chew on his deer antler all day if he could, with the occasional chase after a rabbit. He is also the biggest cuddle bug ever. Anytime he is able to be free and run, he is at his happy place. If you have any questions on things I did not cover, please ask away. My email is [email protected].
