About Poppy

Poppy is a 3 1/2 yr old, beautiful, funny, smart, derpy, neurotic mixed breed German shorthaired pointer, Italian Greyhound and Blue Heeler. Due to the decline in my health, I am trying to find placement for her where she will receive daily walks and some training to improve her social skills. She is very protective of her home and does not like visitors. Poppy is on Prozac for anxiety but I honestly believe with daily walks and more intervention she could probably be taken off the medication. She is the sweetest girl, and so easy to love. Making this decision for myself is very difficult and comes with judgment from those outside and within my family. We had our last dog for almost 14 years, and I spent the last two years of her life taking care of her. Giving up a dog after only 9 months makes me feel ashamed of myself, but it's a necessary decision. I do not have the energy that poppy needs and deserves. I think it will take a couple of visits with her to allow her to get to know you, your family, and possibly your pet. I think she would really benefit from a home with another pet. She does well in public, with people and dogs, but becomes territorial in her own home. She has snapped at several people that have come into our home, but never has bitten any of them. She did get excited recently snapping at the vacuum cleaner, and in her excitement snapped at and bit my leg. She did not break the skin, nor did it even leave a mark. Poppy is extremely loving, and a total goofball...she will make a wonderful addition to your family.
