About Gator

Adoption Fee: $350
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Gator has been in her foster home since June of '23. She lives with, loves and gets along with all dogs and cats. She has the typical cattle dog or heeler energy, exercise and mental needs (which is a bit more than your average dog), and she stays true to her genetics by using her mouth to get her way. Gator has met many children of all ages and loves them but will only thrive in a home with a family that understands a cattle dogs needs and tendencies. Gator's foster mom is a professional, certified dog trainer with a passion for deaf dogs. Gator has been very well socialized and even attended a puppy obedience and play socialization class. She works on her obedience skills daily and understands many hand signals. Gator is highly trainable and is very food motivated, often excitably working and learning for fruits and vegetable. Fetch and tug are Gator's favorite games and she loves to chew and believes multiple and rotated safe chewing options are important for a happy dog home. Gator is crate trained and potty trained but her loose leash walking skills are the most impressive. Gator pays close attention to her handler on walks because of a very consistent history of rewarding her eye contacts. She often eats her dinner as rewards on our evening sunset walks or hikes. Gator has absolutely bonded with her foster family and because of this will require a couple meetings with potential adaptors so we can prevent any abandonment trauma. Her foster mom wants to set her up for success and would make sure each meeting is filled with teaching you how to best communicate with our sweet, deaf girl. Her foster mom is even offering free private training sessions after adoption to further the chances of a successful transition and bonding with you. We would love to find someone who is familiar with the cattle dog/heeler breed or has dog experience as this breed is not the easiest for first time dog guardianship. Experience with a deaf dog is not required as we promise, training them isn't much different than training a hearing dog. Every hurdle around deafness is contrasted with perks and we'd love to share all our knowledge for Gator's happiness.
