About Gordo

Adoption Fee: $25
Bull Terrier
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Gordo needs a home! We recently did a job for a customer who asked us if we wanted a dog. He claimed he found this dog at Walmart running around. He acted like he hadn't had it very long and stated he couldn't take it with him when he moved to Georgia that day. Gordo, as we call him, was covered in fleas, had terrible hot spots where the hair had fallen out, and was constantly dropping down to itch himself. He also has a bad right back leg that was swollen and we think he was possibly hit by a car at some point. We took the dog thinking that my mother might be able to take him in. We have five rescue dogs of our own and two cats at home. We were not in a great position to take on another dog. My mother couldn't take him so we attempted to take him to the shelter. The shelter checked his chip and called the old owner who informed them that he gave it away to the man we got it from and that man had had this dog for six months already. We have since given him flea medication, a medicated bath, and he seems to be doing a little better. However, he has a very serious food aggression and although we attempted to introduce our dogs to him slowly, one at a time, he is attacking our dogs without provocation, even without food being involved. We feed them separately. We keep them separate as much as we can. But, we have to crate him at night and he can't be in the same room with our dogs because he just won't stop trying to fight them. He's great with people, just not other animals. It's not fair to him and it's not fair to our dogs. None of them are at ease and I know Gordo doesn't understand why he's not allowed to socialize. He chases our cats around. It appears to be on the level of just trying to play with them but he's very overbearing and the cats are now slinking around, checking corners to see if he's there. Gordo could be a really great dog for someone who doesn't have any other animals. His positive traits are that he is really protective of the home he's in, he's a big playful goof, he learns commands pretty quickly and actually goes into the crate by himself. He's friendly to people, housetrained, rides in a car well, loves to be loved on, loves treats, and he's definitely a foodie. He will probably require plenty of exercise because he's very energetic. If he got along with our dogs and cats, we would keep him. But, our guys have tenure and we don't have enough experience or money to train Gordo to get him where he needs to be. We want to see him get into a great home where he is loved and treated well. He deserves that. We hope you are able to help Gordo get into the home he needs!
