About Tika

Adoption Fee: $50
Australian Cattle Dog / Border Collie
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Tika is a loving, playful, energetic pup. I rescued her from the Humane Society back in September of 2023. She had been surrendered because her previous owner was fleeing domestic violence. The shelter didn't have much information on her. I have found her to be incredibly sweet. She always wants to be in the same room as her people, loves to play fetch, and is great when playing with other dogs. She is great at the Vet and never has any trouble taking medicine. Everyone who meets her, loves her. So why am I rehoming? Tika was our second dog. My partner has an ESA who is a 90lb lab/ German Shepard mix named Solvi. They get along pretty well and love to run and wrestle together. The problem is, Tika has a tendency to want to be the center of attention. If Solvi is getting pets, Tika pushes her out of the way to insert herself. If Solvi has a toy, Tika takes it. Early on, this resulted in some easy to break up scuffles between the dogs. Recently however, they got into two back to back fights, the second of which was very hard to break up and resulted in an injury to Tika. We need to separate them and given Solvi is an ESA, we need to rehome Tika. I believe she would be best suited as an only dog so that she can feel secure in her status in the family. But she is absolutely great at the dog park and loves to play with other pups. So perhaps with some intentional training, she could live with another dog. She has NEVER been aggressive to people or other dogs. She will set boundaries with male dogs that try to mount her, but has never attacked another dog besides Solvi. I cannot say enough about how sweet of a girl she is. It breaks my heart to rehome so I want to make sure she goes to someone with the time and space to love her well. A note about health issues. She has a mild heart murmur that has been assessed at a 2 by our vet and has not gotten worse in the time that I've had her. She also has an unknown allergy (though our theory is it is chicken) that can cause skin issues. She knows Sit and has good recall when off leash. She has never had an accident in the house but will get into food items that are left out so we keep her in the bedroom when we leave the house. She sleeps in the room with us and would sleep on the bed if allowed. I hope the right family sees this, she is the goodest baby and deserves to be the center of someone's world!
