About Buddy

Adoption Fee: $20
German Shorthaired Pointer mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

A scared, skinny puppy approached us during my dog walk 5/17. After petting him once, he stayed within about 6 inches of me (with no additional encouragement) all the way home. Efforts to find his original owners have been fruitless so far. I already have an arthritic 12 year old female dog and although Buddy wants badly to be her friend, she doesn't enjoy his clumsy puppy energy. To be fair to her in her golden years, I can't keep him long-term but I'm willing to foster him until a good home can be found. This guy is a big ball of sweetness! Although he is already large (49 lbs) and, based on his paw size and appetite, likely not full grown, he has a very gentle and loving nature that would be perfect for a family with children or other (non-elderly) pets. He also seems to be very intelligent and eager to please - after double digit indoor 'accidents' in the first 24 hours and a couple more days with random accidents, his record is perfect for the last week and he is even signaling when he needs to go out! The vet guessed primary breed was a birddog which could help explain his sharp mind and quick learning. He has also done very well staying in a cage/crate overnight and when the house is empty during the day. Although he is a puppy with the associated playfulness and excitability, he's also a pretty calm and chill housemate. Like any puppy, he can be a bit impulsive at times (like gently testing his teeth on the corner of my coffee table or bringing my sandal out from the closet as if it's his next chew toy), but he immediately stops any undesirable activities upon request and once he figures out what the rules are, his desire to be a good boy appears to be stronger than his puppy urges. This little guy is so full of personality and love and just needs to find a family that will appreciate what an awesome dog he is!
