About Olive

Adoption Fee: $50
Pit Bull / Lab
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Located in Richmond, VA. Willing to travel if the adopters are the right fit. 2yo pocket pit mix, microchipped, spayed & UTD on vaccinations, 40lbs I'm heart broken that I have to do this but we are looking to rehome Olive. After 9 months of being together, our older dog has now suddenly attacked Olive multiple times unprovoked and we have had difficulty breaking them up. Olive plays rough and Lana is older and does not seem to be able to correct Olive appropriately (the fights did not happen during play but just Olive walking past Lana). We have taken Lana to the vet and there does not seem to be anything going on medically to cause this. After consulting a dog trainer/behavioralist that specializes in interpack aggression, they have recommended we rehome one of the dogs. Our older dog has medical issues, requires prescription dog food, is dog selective and is not kid or cat friendly so she would likely be more difficult to rehome. In the mean time, we are crate rotating the dogs and working with the behavioralist to try some muzzle training but realize the long term success and safety for both of the dogs is to rehome olive. Olive is a sweetheart and is very affectionate especially towards people. She loves to cuddle. She would do amazing as an only dog, but could possibly do well with another dog-we would have to do a meet and greet. Olive plays rough with other dogs and would require a dog that can correct her appropriately if she gets too excited. She is a Pitt mix that is ~2 years old. She has never been around cats but has a high prey drive so asking for a no cat home. She hasn't been around kids much but has been fine with the ones we met on leash. She is crate trained, potty trained, e-collar trained and walks well on leash. She loves to go on hikes and to the river. Olive is up to date with her vaccinations. Please contact me if you are interested in adopting Olive or know someone who might be. I will require for you to establish Olive at your vets office and show that you will do monthly heart worm prevention. I will pay for you to work with a dog trainer to ensure success. Instead of a rehoming fee, I will require you to pay for her annual check up at your vets office. I will provide you with her food, dog bed, dog bowl, toys etc. We love Olive very much and would be happy to watch her for free when you go out of town (we would keep the dogs separate as we are doing now) or help walk her on my days off from work. I am well versed in the current state of the shelters and rescues and difficulty with rehoming dogs. I love Olive so much, she is the more adoptable of our two dogs so we are trying to find a home for her where she can thrive and be safe.
