About URGENT - Alfie

Running out of options. Please share. Meet Alfie, a look-alike from the old 'Benji' movie! Alfie is an adorable six-year-old, 40-ish-pound Terrier/Aussie mix, with a little Poodle thrown in. He is a very active, sweet, affectionate, and curious pup, just like the 70's film star. He is good on a leash and loves going for walks and car rides. He's also very smart and has learned basic commands, including Sit, Down, Paw, and Come. Alfie loves other dogs but lacks some social skills. He is progressing nicely however with playdates and recently had a fun time with a 7-month old pup. Alfie's sibling match is a patient, doggy friend who enjoys rough-and-tumble play, or he can be an only pet. A home with no kids or older kids is also best. No cats because his experience is unknown. Alfie has been diagnosed with a condition called Diabetes insipidus (a condition that is very different from the type of Diabetes most people are familiar with), which causes him to feel very thirsty. He started medication on 4/12, and it has helped so much! He will need to be on medication for the rest of his life, but luckily, it isn't expensive. He is current on vaccinations and will be neutered before he is adopted. One of the area's go-to behavioral specialists stated that Alfie is a '...very deserving dog�'�|Smart, engaging, affectionate, and food-motivated. However, he uses his mouth due to limited impulse control.' She mentioned that being in a shelter is working against him and that he 'needs a foster or adoptive home with consistency to best teach him.'
