Seeking Dedicated Home for Active, Loving Doggy While it has been a complicated decision my family has decided to find a better home for Bernie. We adopted him in February, and while we have wanted to make it work, we have decided he would be better suited to another family. We think he would thrive with an experienced dog owner that has more time to focus on him mastering his good dog skills. We want him to be loved and adored. He is a very good boy but has a few things to work on. It's important to us that we find the right people for him and we are also happy to support you in making the transition work. We have learned a lot about him over the last couple months and want to share that with you. Kids- Yes! Dogs- Most! Cats- Definitely Not! Areas where he excels- -He almost never barks! We can go days without hearing him bark. -When he wants to play he'll sometime do a very cute 'Rawooo' while he stretches. -He's friendly and relaxed around all people. Says hi but doesn't get overly excited and isn't shy either. -He's wonderful with our toddler who cuddles and plays with him. -He's friendly and relaxed around almost all dogs. He won over our grumpy old Shiba within a couple days and they play and cuddle. -He's loving and wants to bond with the family. He likes to follow without being too needy. Just wants to be nearby. -He seems to pick up on sadness and anxiety and will lay across your legs like a big weighted blanket. With the right training he could make an amazing therapy animal. -He's kind of an ol' farm dog and is happy to lay on the back porch and have a nap. -He's great on a leash but will tug if he sees a squirrel or cat but is redirectable. -He is a calm couch potato for most of the day. Sweet and mellow and will do the casual tail wag when you walk up for pets. Areas where he needs support - -A couple times a day when he is not calm he can be a bit much! Attention seeking (think of Tigger) and might pick up toys that aren't his to get attention. If you have time to play with him it can be fun or cute, if you're busy it can be challenging but he can be distracted with chew toys. -He will occasionally jump up when he's excited. -He can be mouthy like a puppy but he's gentle. -He had a number of accidents his first week here which is a normal part of the transition. Since then he's had a few accidents that seem to be behavioral since they occurred when one or more of us was out of town. -He had one fight at the dog park, seemingly being defensive of our son who was there. We've just walked him since then and he is friendly with all other dogs. -He escaped through an open door and chased our neighbor's cat very aggressively. -His recall is only so-so and if he's chasing something or being rambunctious he doesn't always listen. Extra Perks- -If you live in or near Portland we would be happy to dog sit him for free when the timing works out. Yes, even over nights. We do love him and we know the cost of finding sitters can be a challenge for people. -Comes with harness, toys, fancy dog food. The adoption will be handled through All Joy 4 Paws who charge a $500 adoption fee.
