About Haley

Adoption Fee: $200
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Haley is a 2-year-old red cattle dog is looking for her forever person. She came to our rescue as an owner surrender as her human is dealing with a serious personal illness and cannot care for the physical needs of this young vivacious girl. Haley is spayed, microchipped and up to date on all preventatives!! She walks decently on a leash, knows some basic commands and is house-trained. This baby is one of the most loving dogs I have ever been around. All she wants is her person, a ball to chase, go on a walk (or run preferably) and a place to curl up on at the end of the bed. Or your lap. Or your feet. Haley really is a very loving dog with her person. Haley is dog friendly, but is dog wary. Now for where she is in her journey with people. Haley needs someone who is committed to help her build up her socialization skills as she can be a little uneasy with people (lived a sheltered life with her prior human) and would benefit from slow intros. She will likely bark at people and/or walk away from them, but once she realizes there is nothing to be afraid of, she warms right up. She needs someone who understands that much of her behavior is a lack of confidence/experience and who has the patience and time to work with her. She is young and inexperienced and needs some work on basic manners (no one told her 4 paws should always be on the floor) but we work on things like this daily and she is catching on quickly and is eager to please. She is very food motived which should make training much easier!!I feel she may be too rough/inexperienced for young children and she is unsure of them, so meet and greet for respectful 12 years old+ if kids are in the household. It is said to be ok with cats and chickens, but I cannot test as I do not have these animals at my home. She is not aggressive or resistant to going into her kennel and has had 1 accident in her kennel over the time she has been with me. She rides like a gem in the car and passing cars does not amp her while riding up in the car. She is reported to have done fine at the vet, but a slow and kind vet is always good for the apprehensive cattle dog breed, as we know! When she walks past barking dogs in the kennel, she does not seem to care. She does not try to jump any of my fences either. She would be fine as only dog, and any dog household needs to do a meet and greet with ALL dogs in the household to make sure there are no compatibility issues. Haley will benefit from a home savvy about the typical mannerisms of herding dogs and more specifically ACDs. Since her life experiences with other dogs, people have been very limited, some reactivity could present itself when she is unsure, so she needs a calm, gentle leader she can trust, who sets realistic expectations and boundaries. She is a happy little cattle dog who needs some polishing to finish her out, but she will come around as she has the right mind and disposition for continued education and activity. I really believe she will be an amazing forever BFF for the right person.
