About Merlin

Adoption Fee: $60
Border Collie
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

This is our Border Collie boy, Merlin. His birthday is 12/15/2015, and he is an overall, good boy. He is high energy when playing, but loves to relax inside on a couch or bed (or in his crate), and knows how to relax and hang out with you during down time. He doesn't chew things, he doesn't get into things, and he is very obedient for most activities. He is potty trained and will go outside or on pee-pads indoors if need be. He is attached/obsessed with his toys, and he always has one near him or carries one around in his mouth when walking around the house, as he is very 'Border Collie neurotic' and is always focused on the cat, or his toys. He tends to get a little stressed if his toys are put up or kept away from him, and he will attempt to look for them if they are put away. He loves our cat, and doesn't mind other cats either, although he enjoys sitting and staring at the cat (in the Border Collie herding way), but will not bother the cat or hurt it, and never has. The cat ignores him, and after a while Merlin will go and walk around or lay down, or play with his toy or a chew toy. His favorite thing in the world is playing fetch, and he will play it for as long as you let him. He loves playing in the yard, as he needs a safe and secure yard to expend all of his energy in. He loves swimming pools, hoses and water as well. He is crate trained and prefers to have a crate to relax in with the door open (or closed if need be), and he also likes to eat his meals in his crate, as it is where he goes to when his bowl is filled, so we let him eat his food in his crate, as he is very particular about certain routines that make him feel comfortable. He is unfortunately not at all fond of other dogs, and that is the reason we are needing to find him a home after all this time, as he does not get along with our two senior dogs, a 10 year old (other) Border Collie, and our 10 year old Shepherd mix. They are all 3 boys, and Merlin tries to fight the two seniors any time he is around them so we have had to keep them separated, and they are far too old for the increased stress at their age, and Merlin would flourish far better in a home where he is the only pet, with a single man and no children, or with a couple with no children, and probably also no cats. He would highly benefit in a home as a singular pet with 1 or 2 semi-athletic adults, with no children or other pets. The reason we request there be no children, is because he has never been around children before, so it is best that one or two active adults care for him. He *must* be the *only* pet in the household. Otherwise, he is a fantastic watchdog, he is social and loves people, just not other dogs. We will be very particular as to where he goes, but we are happy to take the time to get to know anyone who is interested in taking Merlin, and we'd even love updates on him after he is settled in. Re-homing fee: $60
