Ϭ IN SEARCH OF RESCUE OR SUITABLE HOME Ϭ TRYING TO AVOID THE SHELTER AS THEY ARE FULL NO YOUNG KIDS NO DOGS Sorry for the long post. Please share, we are desperate . This is Asher. He's almost 6 and a chocolate lab mix. We got him as a puppy at 8 weeks. He's always been a more difficult to be trained dog. However he was harmless. Never bit, not aggressive in the least. His biggest flaw was pulling on a leash at that point. He was neutered as soon as he was old enough. He goes to vet for his vaccines and other health needs. He regularly attended boxers and biscuits for years with no problem. Passing their temperament test and all of their requirements to be around all the other boarded dogs. A couple years ago he started showing some signs of aggression just out of the blue. He snapped at my son trying to get food out of his hand. Became food aggressive. He attacked my small dog over some trash and my house became what looked like a murder scene. We enrolled him in dog training, took some classes on how to handle him and his behaviors better. We feed the dogs separately, he is put in his crate during meals, the trash can was moved to the garage. We went on and we were more cautious. He learned to jump our fence so we moved things away from the fence line. He then learned to open the gates on the fence so we had to attach dog collars around the post and latch to prevent him from slipping through. We had to buy him a pinch collar while on the leash because he started lunging at others and their pets while walking. We had a 3 month private training course with Band of Canines. Last week he somehow escaped our yard. He walked into the neighbors garage and attacked their small senior dog. Left some punctures and brought blood. At this point he has attacked two dogs and snapped at my kids unprovoked. He I think would attack any dog that is new to him. We took him to the vet today to get a behavior evaluation. We were told medication won't fix his behaviors and will only 'sedate' him. We were given trazadone anyways just to try. While the vet was doing his check up Asher bit him and at that point he said 'I am not optimistic and I'm being very real when I tell you he can't be trusted.' Said sometimes dogs just show aggression over time and we can't really explain why. We just want to keep him and others safe and at this point that can't be with us anymore. We've done all we can. For the rest of his life with us he will have to muzzled or locked in a room. Please share in hopes someone is the right fit or that a rescue becomes available.
