This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only. Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Ruthie is a four year old, happy, loving, friendly and ball obsessed lab who would do best in a one dog home as she is reactive when other dogs go near her food bowl. She is also barky when in her own yard as other dogs walk by. Ruthie walks well on leash with harness, due to excitement she'll pull a bit at the start of the walk but settles in when motivated with treats and the 'easy' command. Ruthie has excellent recall when off leash walking, hiking or throwing balls in fields - no fences needed. She is used to a large yard with a 4 ft fence - she can clear the fence when my ball throwing ability (very little ball skills!) end up throwing it over the fence. She'll get the ball then rapidly jump back over the fence for more fetch. She needs daily exercise of off leash running time and long distance ball fetching. Commands she knows: sit, wait (at all intersections and while her food bowl is being put down) OK, come, drop (the ball) go get it, Off, shake, lay down. We rescued a senior blind and deaf pup who has twice wandered too close to Ruthie's space or feeing spot - and was bitten. She couldn't hear the warning growl since she is deaf. To be fair to this fragile one we are looking for an active family with kiddos over 4 that will understand not to go near the dog while she is eating she's never lived with children under that age so I'm not sure how she'd react. She has NEVER shown any aggression to humans (except for one man who was lingering behind our garage up to questionable intentions) and she just growled and barked a very different bark than her normal bark. She protects the yard while out and while inside she will bark at doorbells, mailman, visitors, and has tendency to jump when excited about new comers. Ruthie is used to sleeping in one half of a queen bed. She gets cold and hs her own electric blanket for the winter. If she is t warm enough she'll quietly make her way up and under your blankets, often sleeping over my shins. She doesn't get up on my bed until I say 'up-up'. We got her as a 7 week old pup who said she was half golden retriever half lab retriever but I'm pretty sure she's dominantly 99.9%LAB! She is deserving of a loving home with a physically active owner, a cozy indoor life - no cages or crates or heavens no - tethered to anything. She's a sweet spirited girl who aims to please and just needs to be the only pup in your home. Oh, she also loves social time at dog parks and trail runs but she's not fond of (gets nervous and whines, better when held by a second person in the car. I'm sure she will love your children and you if you're able to continue with the above mentioned activities and love her like a member of your family. She is comfy with cats (has lived entire life with one but over does it at times when she wants to poke or sniff them until they get annoyed with her.
