About Honey Lola

Adoption Fee: $25.00
Chihuahua mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Honey Lola arrived at my husband's aunt's house in Santa Clara underweight and covered in ticks and fleas but was taken in by his aunt and took good care of her. To no fault of her own she needs an immediate home. My husband's aunt is not in good health and has been in and out of the hospital. While she's been in the hospital my husband and I drove to Santa Clara from Bakersfield Ca to pick her up and care for her while she recovers but unfortunately that's no longer an option. We rent in a house where we are only allowed 2 dogs and by having her we are violating our contract because we have 2 of our own already. Bakersfield is going through an animal crisis and we are afraid if we surrender her she will end up in the shelter euthanized because there is no space. Bakersfield is a dumping ground where many dogs, puppies, cats and kittens are dumped in the streets every day so we are willing to drive her back to San Jose for her forever home. Honey Lola shows signs of being abused such as cowering when a hand lifts or a sudden movement, she wanted nothing to do with us when we went to pick her up and it took us several weeks to slowly gain her trust, although she doesn't trust us 100% she has never bitten any of us or our dogs. She's scared of most things but once settled she is an absolute love bug. She's incredibly smart and 100% potty and crate trained, she knows every verbal command I can think of such as: sit, spin, give me paw, inside, come, stay, wait, slow, up, down, rings a blue bell when she wants food or she'll paw at the food bin! Her favorite phrase is 'Do you want weenie?' She knows that means a yummy treat! Her favorite snack is carrots and her favorite game is fetch. Her recall is amazing but she doesn't like being walked with a leash, she won't pull or run she will just freeze. We brush her teeth daily, trim her nails with an electric nail filer and she does great! She's very silent, the only times she makes a noise is when she's running in the backyard out of excitement other than that, she's never barked or has ever had an accident in our house. Every day for work she's left in our room with my other 2 dogs for 4hrs while my younger sisters come home from school to take care of them and she does amazing. She has never torn my shoes, my plants, our cables, our water bottles, or anything else we leave on the floor, she's truly a perfect dog. Just not in our situation. Our lease is longterm with weekly visits from the landlord's workers who manage maintenance and yard work, every week that goes by we risk violating our lease and we don't have anywhere else to go. Our 2 dogs are 7yr old female chihuahua mix, they are couch potatoes, Honey Lola is a couch potato but she does need to stretch her legs and take a couple of laps chasing a ball. We have a ton of toys for her that she plays with, and a huge crate that we are more than happy to send her with. We are also trying to get her spayed but the one low cost program available to us is always full. Our rescues here are maxed out and so are our shelters. We just can't risk an eviction notice because my younger sisters depend on us as well. Honey Lola also responds well to Lola, she has never been around kids younger than 14. She has seen cats from afar and she doesn't attempt to chase them but snorts like she's scared of them. If you have read this far, and you think your family is a good fit please reach out.
