About Ralph

Ralph is an 8-year-old long haired Chihuahua. He is a big lover, and nothing makes him happier than to cuddle up with you on a nice warm blanket on the couch. He loves to follow you around the house like a little puppy and will happily follow you outside. To Ralph, being with his person 24/7 is what life's all about. Ralph would prefer being the only pet in the household. He previously lived with other dogs his size and he currently lives with a very sweet Shih Tzu and cat, but Ralph can be a bit jealous and really prefers to be the center of attention. Not an overly active pup, Ralph enjoys spending a significant amount of time sleeping on the couch. He is a little hard of hearing and can startle easily if he doesn't know you are there. Being the drama king that he is, he does prefer that he be lifted off the couch even though he is perfectly capable of jumping off. LOL He recently had dental work which removed the last of his 3 remaining teeth. He eats wet food but can eat a little dry kibble. His foster mom reports that he is a very messy eater, pulling his food out of his dish. He'll look up at you as if to say, 'hey, you would do the same if you didn't have any teeth!'. Ralph is a heartworm survivor. He successfully completed heartworm treatment last month. He and another dog from the same family were diagnosed when we pulled them from the shelter in September of last year. He did very well and tested negative in January. We do recommend that his adopter keep up with heartworm preventatives and do annual heartworm testing. With all our rescues, Ralph has been fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. He has gone through our Senior Animal Wellness Program which provides a more thorough exam due to his senior status. He has additionally been tested for tick fever, had a urinalysis and x-rays.
