About Rudy

Adoption Fee: $100
German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Rudy is 4.5 year old German Shepard, fixed male. He turns 5 in September. We adopted him at 8 weeks old from a farm in the middle of Michigan. He is not papered, however the breeder claims he is 100% GS. This was right before COVID, so Rudy does not have any proper puppy training. Rudy loves attention and he loves playing fetch. He is a natural protector and will bark at any one who comes to our home. He will be territorial of his humans, especially on a leash. He loves his humans, but he does struggle with children. He does not like to be touched when laying down or sleeping and he will snap. He has unfortunately bit our kids multiple times, so he ABSOLUTELY needs to be in a kid free home. I wish we could keep him but we don't trust him with the children. We feel it is not fair to keep him locked up all of the time because we are worried he might bite one of the kids. He is territorial with his food, especially with children and other dogs. We did not experience it as much with adults. He does not beg for food, however if you leave something out he will probably sneak a snack. He does tend to be anxious when we leave so he is locked up when we leave the house. He also is anxious with the vet and is required to take medication before going. He is up to date on his shots and his Rabies is due in the fall. He is licensed in Sanilac County. Rudy loves other dogs, but he will get easily jealous and does not do well when food is around. Rudy also loves to play with cats, but most of the time is spent chasing the cat away because he thinks the cat wants food from us or from his dish. It is probably best if he is not paired with a home with cats. He does like to jump when you first get home, because he just misses his humans so much. He loves water, hoses, and he could literally play fetch all day long. He does wander when let outside so a fenced in area is best. He hates indoor baths, but he will love a hose bath. He does not eat his food all at once, he will snack throughout the day. He prefers the couch and not a dog bed.
