About Hardee

HARDEE is a 2 year old, 17.2 pound Chihuahua mix who was abandoned by a homeless person. Hardee has come so far since we got him! He is a sweet boy looking for love! HARDEE was found as a stray and we were able to find out that he was abandoned by a homeless person. Based on his background and behavior we knew he had to fight for survival. What we didn't know was that he had also been abused. When he first came in he had a few biting incidents. After having him evaluated by a behaviorist, we now know they were triggered by fear. As he has learned to trust different people we have not had any more of that, but he still flinches if you try to reach for him or near him, especially his head, and especially before he has had a chance to know you. HARDEE is an affectionate dog who loves approval, learning new things, and snuggling! He enjoys nesting in blankets, sitting in laps and begging for people food. Once he knows someone, he is kissy, cuddly, and sweet. HARDEE can be afraid of visitors and strangers and needs slow introductions and time to feel comfortable with them. He needs a firm and confident owner who will check him when he's feeling anxious and protective and let him know that he is safe. He should not to go to a home with kids. HARDEE is not good with male dogs, but he is fine with females and would like having a female friend about his size in his new home. He loves to do zoomies, play hide-n-seek and tug-of-war. We have not had him around cats but think he would probably try to chase them. HARDEE is 100% housebroken and LOVES walks. At night, he sleeps in his dog bed in the big bed or on his own side and loves to give his foster family a good morning cuddle when they wake up. HARDEE has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot and is microchipped with a lifetime registration.
