About Hardee

HARDEE is estimated to be 18 months old, and weighs 17.2 pounds. He is a good looking Chihuahua mix pup who was found as a stray. LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: A fenced yard, lots of time with his family. People tried to help him but he was scared and would run if approached, but Francine and one of our volunteers were able to catch him. Based on info received we believe he may have belonged to a homess gentleman and he's ready to find a home of his own where he won't be running the streets anymore! Hardee is generally a friendly, happy boy. He really likes to be in a lap, loves cuddles, and wants to give lots of kisses. He is young and would love to have an active family to take him on adventures. Whoever adopts him will never be alone, he sticks to his person like glue! He can be protective of his person, and has a bit of a stranger danger attitude, makes sense given what we know of his history, but he needs to know that resource guarding his person is not acceptable. He is not good with fast hand movements or being quickly approached. That said, he adjusts to most new people quickly and once he loves you, he loves you with his whole heart! Hardee can get along with other dogs that are his size (he doesn't like big dogs) but would be best as someone's one and only best friend! We do not know how he would be with cats or children. Based on the protectiveness we think he's better suited to a home without kids. Hardee has good energy and we are requiring a home with a fenced yard. He can be a barker when he's excited and he does have some separation anxiety. He does not like to be left alone a lot and will howl when he's left. He is getting better as he learns that he is not being abandoned, but for the time being, he will not be a good fit for an apartment. Hardee was not used to living inside, but has adjusted quickly to the good life! He has figured out the doggie door and is working on house breaking. We are sure he will do well in his new home with positive reinforcement and a good routine. At night Hardee loves to snuggle up in the big bed to sleep with his foster family. He's actually a bit of a bed hog who likes to sleep ON his person. Hardee has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. Now he just needs a family to call his own! *We are located in Pensacola Florida. Puppies, dogs with pending vet appointments, and dogs with behavioral issues are only adoptable within a 1 hour drive to Pensacola. Most others we will consider within a 5-hour drive. We do not ship or transport our dogs. *We are a foster-based rescue and do not have a facility. Our dogs live in private homes in and around the Pensacola area until they are adopted.
